Apple Ends Royalty Payments To Qualcomm

In the midst of a legal fight over royalty payments between Apple and Qualcomm, the former has stopped paying the latter.
Qualcomm says its revenue will be lower now that Apple is halting any disputed licensing fees.

Payments aren't expected to resume until after a court decision, which Apple hopes will let it pay less.
Apple is improperly interfering with Qualcomm's long-standing agreements with Qualcomm's licensees.
These license agreements remain valid and enforceable. - Dan Rosenberg, executive VP, Qualcomm
Qualcomm's wireless technology patents are the source of dispute in this case.
It has a large number of those patents and uses them to collect royalties from companies like Apple.
That practice has been viewed as abusive by some, leading to a $850 million fine against Qualcomm in South Korea.
Apple is suing the company over its practices and is seeking $1 billion.
The case stems partly from Qualcomm charging Apple more because it doesn't use Qualcomm chips.
