To minimize pollution and its contribution to climate change, China is moving to ban fossil fuel car sales. A timeline for phasing out those vehicles hasn't been
revealed, but it's being created right now by government authorities, says Xin Guobin, China's vice minister of industry and information technology.
When a policy surrounding the timeline is implemented, China will actively encourage local automakers to make the switch to electric vehicles. They'll eventually need to make that transition to stay in business.
China is already encouraging that switch among consumers by offering subsidies for electric vehicles.
Some other countries have also implemented plans to ban fossil fuel cars in the coming decades.
