The Latest Android Version Was Launched By Google On August 21 Here's How To Download And Install Android O Update Right Now

Android 8.0 Oreo saw its release in coincidence with the total eclipse on Monday. It’s a usual tendency for Android users to get every next version on their devices as soon as possible.

The ones who have been a part of the Android beta program are aware of what taste the new

dessert packs inside. But still, people would be eager to download and install the final stable build of Android O.

How get Android O update (OTA)?

As Google has officially released Android O, the official OTA update to the supported device will soon come. The update will first arrive on these devices:

• Google Pixel
• Google Pixel XL
• Google Pixel C
• Google Nexus 6P
• Google Nexus 5X
• Nexus Player

If you’re a part of Android O beta program, chances are that you’ll receive Android O OTA update before everyone else. Many users have reported on online forums that the update is already available for installation on Nexus 6P.

To check if your device is getting the update, you need to go to the Settings app on your phone and find About Phone option at the bottom. After tapping on About Phone option, you’ll need to go to System updates and check. If the update is available, follow the instructions and enjoy Android 8.0 update.

How to install Android O manually?

After you’ve downloaded the system image file for your Nexus or Pixel device, you can flash the same using the instructions provided on the Developers portal. On the instructions page, click ‘Acknowledge’ to display the steps.

Read the steps carefully before doing anything as there are chances your device might get bricked if something goes wrong. Make sure your device has USB Debugging enabled when you connect it to your computer. You can find it in the Developer Options.

Also, as mentioned in the instructions, flashing the new system images would wipe all the data including apps, photos, videos, contacts, etc. from your device. Do remember to back up all the data.

Compatible devices running Android 8.0 Developer Preview 4 are also receiving automatic updates to the stable build of Android O. According to some reports, some beta users were facing issues while installing the stable build. Google’s Dave Burke later confirmed in a tweet that the problem had been fixed.

Getting Android O Update on other devices

Big house Android-makers like Samsung, HTC, Sony, Xiaomi, etc. have their own Android O update release schedule. That’s because of the uncountable number of devices for which they have to optimize the operating system after its release. This includes adding their custom launchers, bloatware, and other services.

As far as Samsung is concerned, we can expect some announcement at their Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled to happen Wednesday.

A new entrant in the fight is Nokia – an old brand with the new DNA of HMD Global. Nokia came back to life this year with their set of budget Android devices including Nokia 3, 5, and 6 along with the recent flagship Nokia 8. The company has hinted about a pure Android experience for their users and it’ll be interesting to see how fast Nokia users manage to get Android O update.
