Linux Distribution Releases (July 2017)

4MLinux 22.0

Release Date: July 1st, 2017
4MLinux 22.0 is the latest stable release. It comes loaded with LibreOffice 5.4.0.1, GIMP 2.8.22, Dropbox 28.4.14, Firefox 54.0, Chromium 59.0.3071.86, etc. The biggest change comes with 4MLinux Server, which is a lightweight and fast server Linux distro.

Netrunner 17.06

Release Date: July 1st, 2017
Netrunner 17.06, codenamed Daedalus, has been released with an upgraded stack of KDE Plasma, Apps, and Frameworks. This release is powered by Linux kernel 4.9, Plasma 5.10, Frameworks 5.34, Qt 5.7.1, etc. This release also includes a new set of default wallpapers.

Calculate Linux 17.6

Release Date: July 1st, 2017
Marking the 10th anniversary of Calculate Linux, version 17.6 was released. The new release comes in multiple desktop environments.

Linux Distribution Releases (June 2017)

Manjaro Linux 17.0.2

Release Date: June 26th, 2017

Ultimate Edition 5.5

Release Date: June 24th, 2017
Ultimate Edition 5.5 Linux distro was based on Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus. Please note that it isn’t a Long Term Support release. It’s powered by Linux kernel 4.10 and KDE Plasma destop environment.

OpenMandriva Lx 3.02

Release Date: June 21st, 2017
The latest release of OpenMandriva Lx was released with new features. OpenMandriva Lx 3.02, a quick to boot and fast Linux distro, features KDE Frameworks 5.33.0, Plasma 5.9.5, Applications 17.04, and Qt 5.8.0. It also ships with Xorg 1.19.3, Wayland 1.1.2.0, and Mesa 17.1.

Debian 9

Release Date: June 17th, 2017

antiX 16.2

Release Date: June 16th, 2017
antiX 16.2 release came loaded with all updates from Debian Jessie and security patches to Linux kernels. It promises to come loaded with great LiveUSB features. You can download its 3 flavors both in 32 and 64-bit versions.

Tails 3.0

Release Date: June 13th, 2017
The anonymity-focused Tails 3.0 Linux distro was released as the first version of Tails based on Debian 9 Stretch. This release comes loaded with a new startup and shutdown experience. It also features efforts to polish the desktop experience and security. It goes without saying that updates have been provided to major software packages.

Fedora 26 Betafedora 26 alpha release

Release Date: June 13th, 2017

MX Linux 16.1

Release Date: June 8th, 2017
MX 16.1 Linux distro, available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, comes with installer improvements and tweaks to the default user interface. It also comes with updates to Jessie 8.8 base.

KaOS 2017.06

Release Date: June 5th, 2017
The latest KaOS 2017.06 release features Qt 5.9.0 and Plasma 5.10.0. As a result, the new changes and features of these releases are reflected in the KaOS release. Please note that installing this release on RAID or LVM isn’t possible.

Bodhi Linux 4.2.0

Peppermint OS 8

Release Date: May 28th, 2017
Peppermint OS 8, which comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, is based on Ubuntu 16.04 code base. It’s powered by Linux kernel 4.8. With Mesa 17.0.2, Peppermint OS 8 also promised to deliver an improved performance.

Alpine Linux 3.6.0

Release Date: May 25th, 2017
Alpine Linux is a lightweight Linux distribution with a focus on security. Alpine Linux 3.6.0, the first in v3.6 stable series, comes with the newly added support for ppc64le and s390x machines. This release also features Rust 1.17, Cargo 0.18.0, GHC 8.0.2, Julia 0.5.2, GCC 6.3, PHP 7.1, Go 1.8, Python 3.6, etc.

elementary OS 0.4.1

Release Date: May 17th, 2017
The first point update to elementary OS 0.4 was released with a newer Linux 4.8, Ubuntu 16.04.2 core, and a better support for 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake chips. This release also brings new hardware enablement stack and a new App Center.

Black Lab Linux 11

Release Date: May 7th, 2017
Based on Linux kernel 4.8 LTS, Black Lab Linux 11 promises to balance a cutting edge performance with the stable GNOME desktop experience. Built for small to medium sized businesses, this release features KDE Runtime for QT apps, LibreOffice 5.3, Google Chrome 58, and Skype.

NethServer 6.9

Release Date: May 3rd, 2017
NethServer 6.9, a server Linux operating system, was released with improved security features like Let’s Encrypt, Shorewall version 5, etc. This release is based on CentOS 6.9 Linux distro.

Linux Distribution Releases (April 2017)

Lakka Linux 2.0

Release Date: 28th April, 2017
Lakka Linux 2.0, a popular gaming Linux distro, was released after 6 months of community testing. The new version is based on LibreELEC instead of OpenELEC. It features tons of updated packages. It also ships with RetroArch 1.5.0.

Tails 2.12 

Release Date: April 19, 2017
The anonymity-focused Tails 2.12 was released with Linux kernel 4.9.13. It features the GNOME Sound Recorder application and improved hardware support. This release also removed I2P.

Deepin 15.4

Release Date: April 19, 2017

Scientific Linux 6.9

Release Date: April 17, 2017
Based on RHEL 6.9, Scientific Linux 6.9 comes with a new Scientific Linux End User License Agreement (EULA), which contains information about the U.S. Government contract under which it’s produced. It also comes with many updated packages.

KaOS 2017.04

Release Date: April 11, 2017
The latest snapshot of KaOS is released in two flavors. While one version is Plasma Wayland, the other one is regular X-based. The Plasma Wayland is smaller in size and ships with limited applications. This release is also the first for KaOS to include all needed modules to automatically change scale according to resolution. It’s based on Systemd 233, Mesa 17.0.3, Xorg-Server 1.19.3, Linux 4.10.9, GCC 5.4.1

TinyCore 8.0

Release Date: April 9, 2017
TinyCore 8.0, a minimalist distribution built from scratch, has been released. The changelog for Tiny Core 8.0 includes Linux kernel 4.8.17, glibc 2.24, GCC 6.2.0, etc. For this release, most of the extensions have been copied from 7.x repo and Xorg 7.7 extensions have been updated.

OpenELEC 8.0.0

Release Date: April 9, 2017
OpenELEC, an open source media and entertainment software built around Kodi, witnessed its new release in the form of OpenELEC 8.0.0. As it’s a feature release, it comes loaded with many changes like new platform, WeTek Play 2Play 2, supported with its own build. Raspberry Pi Zero W supported by Raspberry Pi (1) builds.

LXLE 16.04.2

Release Date: April 7, 2017lxle
Based on Ubuntu 16.04.2, LXLE 16.04.2 lightweight Linux distro was released. Codenamed Eclectica, this release comes with changes to menu layout and control menu, theme tweaks, driver updates, etc. There are other extensive set of changes too, which can be accessed on the release page.

CentOS 6.9

Release Date: April 5, 2017
CentOS 6.9, built from the source code for the recent RHEL 6.9, was released. It’s the project’s legacy branch which will be supported until November 2020.

Fedora 26 Alpha

Release Date: April 4, 2017

After multiple delays, The Fedora Project released Fedora 26 Alpha after a few delays. This release shipped with GNOME 3.24 and Python 3.6. As it was an early development snapshot, the users were expected to try out the upcoming release and submit bugs. The release covered Alpha versions of Fedora Desktop, Fedora Server, Fedora Spins, Fedora Laps, and Fedora for ARM

Linux Distribution Releases (March 2017)

Linux Lite 3.4

Release Date: March 31, 2017

The final release of Linux Lite 3.4 was shipped by the Linux Lite developers. Apart from focus on updates and minor improvements, Linux Lite 3.4 also arrived with a new application Lite Updates Notify. The users can use this application for setting Update reminders as per their convenience.

Oracle Linux 6.9

Release Date: March 28, 2017
Oracle announced the release of Oracle Linux 6.9, which was also the final update release of Oracle Linux 6. It came with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel and Red Hat Compatible Kernel. The other features of the release were TLS 1.2 support, cpuid utility, improved SSSD support for active directory, etc.

Ubuntu 17.04 Beta 2

Release Date: March 23, 2017Ubuntu 17.04
Canonical announced the final beta release of Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus. Apart from the flagship Unity edition, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Studio and Xubuntu flavors. It comes with updated versions of most packages and Linux kernel 4.10.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.9

Release Date: March 21, 2017
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.9 was released as the last point release of RHEL 6. RHEL 6.9 updates the TSL 1.2 protocol for strengthening communication security. It’s now compatible with modern apps designed for the cloud. The updated image also makes it easier for the users to shift their RHEL 6 workloads into container-based applications.

Chakra GNU/Linux 2017.03

Release Date: March 14, 2017
The first Chakra release of 2017 was codenamed Goedel after the mathematician and philosopher Kurt Goedel. Chakra GNU/Linux 2017.03 was released with two noteworthy changes. The installer, Calamares, was updated to version 3.0.1.91 and the homegrown Heritage theme for Plasma got a refreshing facelift.

Parrot Security OS 3.5

The developers tested many Debian packages, added new features, and dropped some obsolete packages. The Linux kernel was updated to the latest 4.9.13.

Tails 2.11

Release Date: March 7, 2017
Tails 2.11 release came as the last version to included the alternative anonymizing network I2P. This step was taken due to the lack of developers who could maintain I2P. The latest release of this anonymity-focused Linux distro features the Tor Browser 6.5.1, number of bug fixes, and security fixes.

Manjaro Linux 17.0

Release Date: March 7, 2017manjaro 17.0 Gellivara
Manjaro Fringilla was followed by the release of Manjaro 17.0 Gellivara. Available in Xfce and KDE desktop environments, Manjaro 17.0 came with Linux kernel 4.9 LTS, Xorg v1.19, and various updates. PCLinuxOS 2017.03

The KDE Plasma 5 ISO images of popular Linux-based operating system PCLinuxOS were updated. In new images included all the recent updates and bug fixes. It came with Linux kernel 4.9.13, KDE Plasma 5.8.6 LTS, KDE Frameworks 5.31.0, and KDE Applications 16.12.2.
