SpaceX Planning To Launch Internet Delivery Satellites In 2019

SpaceX plans to launch 4,425 internet delivery satellites and some of those satellites are set to begin launching in 2019. Patricia Cooper, SpaceX's VP of government affairs, discussed the company's plan during a Senate hearing on US

broadband infrastructure.

It hopes to begin testing the satellites this year. That testing will continue into 2018. If things go according to plan, some of the satellites could be launched the following year.

SpaceX requested permission from the FCC to launch the satellite fleet, called Cooper, in late 2016. It believes Cooper, which is to be stationed in low-Earth orbit, will offer high-speed fiber-like internet coverage around the globe.

The satellite launches will occur in phases from 2019 to 2024. SpaceX will use the Falcon 9 to bring them up.
