Despite disappointing early sales, Capcom still believes Resident Evil 7 will eventually have over 10 million shipments. The game's 3.5 million shipped copies failed to meet Capcom's expectations for the last fiscal year, which was 4 million copies.
Even though the game may not have done as well as it had hoped during its first period of time on the market, Capcom thinks Resident Evil 7 has a relatively strong future.
During an investor Q&A session, it described the game's initial sales and shipments as a "solid start." Because the "lifecycle for games is growing longer," it's not a big deal that it didn't meet early expectations.
This title was received favorably by both fans and the media; further, its unit sales continue to grow even now. We will work to achieve our unit sales goal this fiscal year by continuing to generate buzz with promotional activities that include events for fans, as well as with downloadable content.- Capcom
