As Waymo (Alphabet) fights Uber in court, it is also partnering with Uber's greatest competitor, Lyft. They're going to work together on autonomous vehicle technology, increasing the possibility that Lyft could overtake Uber as a result of faster developments in the self-driving car space.
Exactly how they'll collaborate isn't clear. We know Lyft is also working with General Motors to test autonomous Chevy Bolts, so it's possible Waymo could get involved in those activities.
Waymo remains locked in a legal battle with Uber, with the company claiming Uber stole and used trade secrets.
