Oracle has announced the general availability of Oracle Linux 6 Update 9, which is the ninth final update release for Oracle Linux 6. Oracle Linux 6.9 is based on the just released Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.9. This release has arrived ten months after the release of Oracle Linux 6.8.

Oracle Linux 6.9 new features and fixes

Oracle Linux 6.9 ships with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 4 for x86-64, Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 2 for i386, and Red Hat Compatible Kernel for i386 and x86-64.
Oracle Linux 6.9 fixes a regression from past release that caused Oracle Database to fail in some conditions. Oracle also advises the users of other Linux distros with Oracle Database to contact their vendor and ask for a patch.
As Oracle Linux maintains user space compatibility with RHEL, the existing applications will continue to run unmodified. It means that the applications which are already certified with RHEL 6 or Oracle Linux 6 won’t face any issues.

Other notable features of this release:

  • Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 support
  • Availability of cpuid utility
  • Improved SSSD Support for Active Directory
  • Improved Hyper-V guest support
The users can download the ISO images for Oracle Linux 6.9 from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud.
