> Mr Ibrahim Magu who is the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has noted men are more corrupt than women based on the result of their investigations.
This is coming a day after a Federal High Court in Ikeja found Mrs Ada Ugo-Ngali who is the managing director of Ontario Oil and Gas Ltd guilty of fuel subsidy scam and sentenced her to 10-years imprisonment.
NA reports that Magu received the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) in Abuja on Friday, January 27 where he said men have more tendencies to be corrupt.
“Looking at the number of people that have been apprehended by the commission, the number of men involved outnumbers the women.”
He described women as nation-builders and stressed the need for more collaboration between the EFCC and NCWS.
He explained that the commission had never undermined the rule of law in its fight against corruption especially political corruption.
“We respect the independence of the judiciary and auditing bodies in our efforts to ensure that the corrupt are prosecuted, while stolen assets are returned.”
He revealed that the “Women Against Corruption” would be launched on February 22 and called for the support of women.
Dr. Gloria Shoda who is the president of the group applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his fight against corruption.
The NCWS official challenged the government to extend the fight against corruption to sectors like education, roads, healthcare and security.
“We want a Nigeria where our agricultural sector is functional and ranked among the best in the world, not just for the sake of economic diversification.”
