Due to increase in human population, there is an increase in the demand of food fish in the society. This has led to the growth of aquaculture in the society as we are constantly faced with the challenge of fishing at a sustainable level.
Not only is fish important as a high source of protein, fishing is also done for aesthetic purposes. Some people engage in fishing as a recreational activity while catching fishes basically for their immediate family.
There are certain festivals you do not want to miss in Nigeria. The fishing festival is one of the
amazing festivals that displays culture and tourism. People gather from far and near to watch fisherman as they go about their businesses.
Normally, bans are laid on some water bodies in order to allow the fishes there to grow. The authorities also restrict the use of certain fish gears while regulating the mesh sizes in order to allow the juvenile fishes to grow. However, the catch at the Jigawa fishing festival will make your jaws drop.
It was the second fishing festival being held in the state and the fish farmers recorded a huge success with the massive catch seen here. During the fishing festival, fish farmers go into the water and search for the biggest fish within a given time frame.
The occasion which took place at Kalgwai, Auyo local government area of the state was graced by the governor, Alhaji Badara Abubakar. He encouraged the people to embrace the agricultural schemes set up by the government while presenting gifts to the fishermen with the massive fishes.
