Wigan sack manager Caldwell

Gary Caldwell has been sacked as manager of Wigan, the struggling English second-tier club announced Tuesday.
The former Scotland defender took the northwest side to the League One title last season but Wigan have so far won just two league matches this term in the Championship.

David Sharpe, who succeeded his grandfather Dave Whelan as Wigan chairman in March last year, told the club website: “It’s undoubtedly the toughest decision I’ve had to make since becoming chairman.
“We deservedly won the League One title last season. However, we have not managed to carry on that momentum into this season and, after careful consideration over a period of time, I feel that we need to act now in the best long term interests of the club.”
Caldwell captained Wigan to FA Cup glory in 2013 and, after retiring as a player, took over as manager in April 2015.
