MAIDUGURI—Wife of Borno State governor, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, yesterday hosted about 500 children, mainly orphans, drawn from four internally-displaced persons, IDPs, camps in Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Local Govern-ment Area as part of Eid el-Kabir celebration.
The children, aged between five and 11, were those who took between first
and 20th positions in their schools, and were chosen by their volunteer teachers monitored by the Chairman of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Engineer Ahmed Satomi.
Addressing the children at the Government House venue of the party, Hajiya Nana commended President Muhammadu Buhari, troops, government and people of the state, especially the Civilian JTF members, for their unrelenting efforts in fighting Boko Haram, which brought peace across the state and the North-East in general.
In an interview on the occasion, SEMA Chairman, Satomi, said: “It is gratifying to note that most of the IDPs from Askira-Uba, Damboa, Konduga and Mafa council areas have since returned to their liberated communities.
“The decision to host this number of school children from IDP camps is to motivate others to concentrate on their education. Organisers of the programme, including a daughter of the governor, Miss Ammira Shettima, presented gifts to the children.”
