Refrain from acts of sabotage or be dealt with, Army warns militants, IPOB

The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, has warned militants blowing up oil pipelines and the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, clamouring for secession to refrain from the acts or be dealt with.

In an interview with newsmen after declaring open the 2nd and 3rd quarter of the Chief of Army Staff Conference on Tuesday in Makurdi, Olonishakin vowed that those agitators would be dealt with if they did not desist.
Quoting from ex-Head of State, retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon, the CDS said: “To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.’’
“We will use all that we have on any person or group that goes contrary to this. We are using this opportunity to appeal and even warn all those, who are responsible for sabotage of critical infrastructure to channel their energy to developmental issues for the nation.
“And even those, who are also clamouring for secession, I think I want to advise them to channel their effort toward the development of the nation.
“The indivisibility of this nation is sacrosanct just like the president – Muhammadu Buhari said, and we in the military are poised to ensure that is achieved,’’ he said.
The CDS reminded Nigerians on the need to maintain the peace, adding that it was germane for the progress of the nation.
Speaking earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai restated the determination of the army to tackle the myriad of security challenges facing the nation to ensure peace.
Buratai used the opportunity to disclose that army had awarded scholarship to3, 856 children of deceased personnel to acquire education up to tertiary level.
He explained that the figure rose to that due to increase in death of personnel, particularly from the “Operation Lafia Dole’’ fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
