Gunmen kill lawyer in Aba

ABA-Unknown gunmen have shot dead a legal practitioner identified as Blessing Nwalaocha at Alaoji, along Aba-Ikot Ekpene highway, Obingwa council area, Abia State.
The gunmen were said to have waylaid Nwalaocha a few kilometers to his
house and killed him. According to a source, “It was like the gunmen trailed him from a distance without his knowledge. They blocked his car with a tricycle and dragged him out. He resisted them but was overpowered by the gang who dealt him machete cuts. He bled to death while the gang left with his car. There seems to be a planned onslaught against lawyers in Aba. Few days ago, a lawyer was kidnapped at waterside and another one along Ikot Ekpene road. Now, Nwalaocha has been assassinated. The Abia state government should do more to check the rising insecurity in the area.”
The situation caused panic in community as residents and shop owners fled the area for fear of Police arrest. However, a team of Policemen later stormed the area and took his corpse to the morgue. We gathered that the late Nwalaocha works with the Abia State Ministry of Justice.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Command, ASP Ogbonnaya Nta, promised to get back to Vanguard but never did as at the time of filing this report, but a Police source who confirmed the incident added that investigations have begun on the matter.
