Owerri—Commuters plying Amakohia- Ubi road in Owerri West Local Government Area, are currently thinking of an alternative road to access in and out of the community for their daily businesses.
The effect is now
slowing down economic and social activities in the area as well as restricting the free flow of goods and services especially for their routine business of transportation of agricultural products from the affected community to Owerri. This was as a result of the impassable nature of the road, a major entrance to the community, called Nkwoala/Amakohia-ubi road. The road which is strategically positioned, is a by pass on the Owerri/Onitsha express way where residents, visitors to the community have to stop before continuing their journey to the community.
Also, the road linked the community with another Local Government, Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Lamenting on the harrowing pains, the road have caused them, a bus driver who introduced himself as Ikenna Uwasomba, told Vanguard yesterday that the only way out of their excruciating sufferings, was for the government to immediately repair the bad spots on the road.
Doing this, according to Uwasomba, would end the uneasy and difficulties experienced by users of the road including those who live within and outside the community, who have reason to travel to the community for their daily activities.
He said: “Our government should come and put this road in order. This road is very important to us, we are business people, I drive through this road everyday as a taxi driver but when my car develops mechanical faults, my passengers will come down and board another vehicle. I am always at loss when this happens.”
Speaking also, some of the vendors of local foods and fruits, said that, the situation has negatively impacted on their businesses.

“drivers now drive us through the road that is very far before we get to Owerri, it is the reason why we reach the market very late and at the end of the day, we do not sell all our goods.”
They added that, due to what their experiences were at the moment,” it is contributing to their hardships. We no longer meet up with time in our businesses as usual., they lamented, appealing however, to the government of Imo State led by Governor Rochas Okorocha to save them from the bad condition of the road by making it motorable through palliatives.
