1. Blessing Okagbare, on Thursday, led team Nigeria into the finals of the women’s 4x100m relay at the ongoing Rio Olympic after finishing at 42.55sec. Three Nigerians made up of Okagbare, Gloria Asumu, Jennifer Madu and Agnes Osazuwa, came second in heat two behind Germany that got to the finish line at 42.18sec.

2. Following the threat by the Niger Delta Avengers that it will declare the Republic of Biafra on October 1, the Police has warned against the planned secession, saying it is a treasonable offence. The Force Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah, stated that the security agencies would stand vehemently against any action that might lead to a breakdown of law and order in any part of the country.
3. The naira appears to have crashed completely as it traded at an all-time low of 365.25 to the dollar on Thursday in a single interbank market trade of $1m. Interbank trading started two hours after the market opened and offered the currency sharply lower against the dollar.
4. An Abuja division of the Court of Appeal, on Thursday, faulted the judgement by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which sacked the embattled Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu. Delivering the ruling, the Justice Helen Ogunwumiju-led five-man bench held that Abang’s judgment was made in error and consequently declared the Governor returned.
5. Immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan has for the second denied allegations in some quarters that he is sponsoring the Niger Delta Avengers. Jonathan in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, on Thursday alleged that the allegation was being sponsored by those who were intimidated by his soaring profile in Nigeria and abroad.
6. A report by the Economist Intelligence Unit has ranked Lagos as the third worst city to live, retaining its position at the bottom of the Global Liveability index. The Centre of Excellence is placed 138th out of the 140 cities ranked in the fresh liveability survey.
7. The Body of Principal Officers of the House of Representatives had in a statement issued on Thursday said that the decision to sack its former Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin, was collectively taken.Disassociating themselves from Jibrin and his recent allegations, the group said Jibrin was sacked in response to agitation by the majority of members after they discovered that he abused the 2016 budget. The officers include Dogara; Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun; Majority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila; Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa; Deputy Leader, Buba Jibril; Deputy Whip, Pally Iriase; Minority Leader, Leo Ogor; Deputy Minority Leader, Chukwuka Onyeama; Deputy Minority Leader, Yakubu Barde; and Deputy Minority Whip, Binta Bello-Maigeri.
8. Report says a foiled jailbreak in Abakaliki prisons in Ebonyi state on Thursday resulted in the killing of many inmates while several others sustained bullet injuries.Though there are different versions to the death toll, some reports say more than 14 persons were killed including one prison official. The injured were taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA, for urgent medical attention.
9. A report has claimed that the Nigerian military Thursday granted administrative bail to Ahmed U. Bolori and Aisha Wakil, the Persons who made themselves available to the military authority after being declared wanted over alleged link with Boko Haram. The bail was granted after they met some conditions, including the submission of their international passport. Meanwhile investigation into the matter will continue.
10. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar, Thursday, disclosed that NAF would soon take delivery of 12 new Mi-35 attack helicopter gunships fitted with modern facilities to fire guided missiles at enemy positions. He further disclosed that a new set of fighter jets from the United States of America with ISR facilities would soon be receieved by NAF in order to complete its fight against Boko Haram insurgents.
